BeULuv At The Movies: Get On Up

7.31.2014

Come Friday at the movies is where I'll be.  Not many movies have come out lately that have drawn me to the theater. I mostly just wait for them to come out on dvd.   But, this one I'm looking forward to seeing and learning about the God Father Of Soul James Brown.

Anything in theaters or coming to theaters that got you getting on up to go see?
(pun intended, horrible I know)

My Flax Seed Gel Experience

7.31.2014

I may be going crazy, I've done it before, but I could have sworn I mentioned something in one of my post about flax seed gel.  Or maybe it was something mentioned in the comments of one of my blog friends. I can't remember, but I did it.  I cooked up a patch of flax seed gel and did a twistout. And the results where amazing! This was the best hair day I've had in like ever.

I don't think this pic does the definition of the curls justice.

Can you say definition. Cause my hair was giving it to me. Yes, flax seed gel is here to stay.

Here is the recipe I used If you ever want to try:

  • 1/4 cup of whole (red or gold) flaxseeds (buy at health food stores or Amazon). One pack will last you a long time.
  • 2 cups of water
  • Add essential oils or aloe vera gel for added benefits (optional)  I used a couple of drops of Rosemary, Basil oil, Lavender oil, Vitamin E.
This is the video I used to tell me what to do

If your natural do you make your own products? What do you use for an amazing twistout?

Sew Happy Project #7 Or Should I Say Sew Frustrated

7.29.2014

This is what I've been sewing on for the past week or two. Putting it down and picking it up again.  With all that I've sewn this summer so far this has been the most challenging.  They have pockets, darts front and back, a zipper and waist closure in back.

When I took on this project I knew I would have some trouble, considering I've never sewn a zipper or darts before.  I was prepared to learn something new.  Well I did learn to do those things with no problem. Yay me! But what has me stuck and frustrated is the waistband. Yes, the waistband, the last thing I thought would give me trouble.  Nope, a waistband wont let me be great. lol.

At this point I don't have time for that. And will be putting this project on hold and will be returning to it after I call my Momma for help at another time.

People, Places, Things #6

7.17.2014

I joined a book club recently on MeetUp.com and this weekend was my first book discussion. I attended the discussion with my sister who also joined the club. The book up for discussion was a book that I would have never picked up to read otherwise.  This is the very reason why I joined a book club, I want to broaden myself and open myself up to reading new things. I usually just read african american fiction, christian fiction, some historical fiction and self help books.  I know there is sooo much more out there and I wanted to be open to trying it.

Over all I enjoyed getting different opinions of what others thought of the book. I enjoyed it for the most part, while others thought it was bad and others thought the plot was just plain stupid. lol. Like I said it was cool knowing what others thought. I'm looking forward to the next discussion.

I know it's late in the week but how did your weekend go? Do you have a love for reading? If so what are you reading now?

Sew Happy Project #6 Yay or Nay

7.17.2014

I completed this project last week but haven't been able to find a shirt to go with it.  I ordered this sequence top for the 10dollarmall.com it took what seemed like for ever to come. But I got it today and now I think the sequence might be to much.

I love the way these shorts came out and I plan on making more. They where super easy.

I'd love to know what you think, yay or nay on the sequence top? If it is to much then I only have an excuse to shop some more. lol I love a good excuse to go shopping. ;)

Wish I Was There

7.08.2014

All weekend I was glued to my Facebook and Instagram. Living vicariously through my friends and people that I subscribe to that where lucky enough to be present at the Essence Music Festival.
This has been on my bucket list for years and this year was no exception.  But this year I really wanted to be there and all due to him. The Purple Majesty, Prince!!

Wish I was there. Hopefully this isn't the last time he'll perform there and I can make future plans to see him.  So hope is not lost. ☺

What concerts have you attended this summer or wished you where there?

The Skin I'm In

7.08.2014

So I woke up a day or two ago to find the above circled offender on my forehead.  Very disrespectful like, to this day still has not gone away.  Ughh!

Do I have acne issues? I wouldn't say so, but every once in a while this happens.  Aside from that you may also be able to tell that I have oily skin, blemishes, black heads and in need of my eye brows did lol.  In a nut shell I need a skin care regimen badly. My regimen until now consisted of me washing my face in the mornings on being on my way.

So off the bat the first thing I plan on doing is, uping my water intake! I don't mind water, I just don't drink as much of it as I should.

Secondly, I need to find a product combination that works for me. The products that I use now aren't totally useless but they don't address all my issues or they may help if only I used them. Example being toner.

So to start here is what I've come up with for my regimen. I will try this for the remainder of the month to see if it works in regards to products that I'm using. I will make changes as necessary.

CLEANSE: Morning and night using Aveeno Clear Complexion
TONE: Mornings with Witch Hazel
MOISTURIZE: Mornings with Ambi Essentials Daily Moisturizer w/ SPF 15
EXFOLIATE: Once a week with Ambi Exfoliating Wash

Also weekly: A cleansing mask

One to try a Witch Hazel Mud Mask 3x/week. Blend 1 tsp Witch Hazel, 1 tsp green clay powder & 1 tsp raw honey. Apply for 15 min. avoiding eye area. Rinse with lukewarm water.

So, this is what I've come up with, hopefully at the end of the month I'll see some changes.

Do you have a skin care regimen? Do you think you need a lot of products to have a successful regimen?

Sew Happy Project #5

7.01.2014

Happy July everyone! It's a new month and a new project for the week.  I chose a dress for this week and this one was super easy.  Although I have to say that mine was not without flaws.  I had trouble with the elastic and I should have cut a medium but come to find out I brought a large-xxl. So I kinda had to work with what I had so I cut a large and then took in the sides so that it would fit better.

I didn't hem the neckline or arm opening since I'm not going to be wearing this one out and I don't plan to either.  But I will be making more and now that I know what I need to do I will do the hem.

This dress is so comfy, glad I brought extra material. So now on to the next.
