This Christmas Day 4

12.16.2010

Many people wait til after the holidays to worry about getting rid of weight gain me myself would like to get a head start. So inspired by the 9 ladies dancing of the 12 days of Christmas I've but together this list of things to do to get or maintain a dancers body.

1.     Do 30 minutes of cardio 5 times a week.

A half and hour of cardio most days of the week will help keep you at a healthy body weight, which is essential in order to be able to show off any muscles that you will likely develop if you are working out regularly.

2.     Do Pilate's twice a week.

Pilates allows you to become more flexible and will help you to move more fluidly; similar to a dancer. Pilates will help you get a dancer's body by toning your body without adding bulk.

3.     Strength train.

Strength is important to having a lean dancer body. A couple of times a week, hit a weight circuit at the gym, or stay home and do strength training exercises using your own body weight.

4.     Dance!

What better way to get a dancer's body than to dance? When you dance, you use all kinds of different muscles that might otherwise go unused, and you are burning calories. It's also a great way to relieve stress!

5.     Eat Salmon

Salmon is good in omega- 3 fatty acids and potassium. Eat it baked, grilled, steamed or poached but limit yourself to 6 oz a week.

6.     Eat Spinach

This green leafy veggie contains vitamins C and E, calcium, potassium and zinc.  Try it raw or use in salads.

7.     Eat Blueberries

These berries contain vitamin C, potassium and fiber.  Eat them with cereal, or yogurt, or try them in muffin/pancake mixes or make a smoothies. A great perk that comes along with this berry is that it protects cells from cancer causing free  radicals!

8.     Eat Yogurt

Yogurt is good for protein, calcium, phosphorus and vitamin B.  Contrary to the popular myth yogurt doesn't need to be kept cold.

9.     Use Olive oil

This oil contains healthy unsaturated fats.  Eat in salad dressing or use for cooking.
